This dagger is grey, the metal washed in acid (giving it a mottled appearance) except along the very edge of the blade and tip where it shines keenly. It has the slim lines of a stiletto but with a stylized crosspiece of two prisma wings (can be described as dragonfly). The pommel is a draconic head with blank insets where small rubies used to be for eyes.

The dagger was originally forged by a K'stulaami Weaponsmith named K'yekkik, who lived in the Throal Mountains before the Scourge. It was meant a a gift to a T'skrang riverboat captain who rescued him from his niall/village as a child (who thought he would spread his K'stulaami curse to the other young T'skrang). The riverboat captain loved flying creatures, and in his cabin were drawings, paintings, figurines and such of everything from griffons to dragonflies. Records exist of K'yekkik and his rescue, and Piercewing's name and creation in the forge of the House of The Spirit Wind. The weaponsmith tried to put his own love of flying into the blade during its making.

The blade never reached its intended, K'yekkik was killed by a krillra (the huge female krilworms), who was unable to bring himself to strike back at another flying creature, and the blade passed through the hands of various K'stulaami until it was claimed by a dwarf Air Sailor named Hagslek. Hagslek's air ship fought the K'stulaami over a find of true air. The dwarf spent the start of the Scourge inside Throal after its gates closed, and used Piercewing to kill 3 bloatform-type horrors gorging on dwarven blood who snuck into Throal, this is where Piercewing got the nickname 'Bloodsipper'. Hagslek was killed by a fourth Horror, a type of flying winged skull with fanged tentacles that he missed with the dagger. Proclamations of him, and these events, can be found in the Great Library.

From there it is up to the GM, in my game it was passed between a few Thieves, finally leaving Throal after the Scourge in the hands of an Ork named Gahch, who joined up with a pirate crew on a ship out of Urupa. Unfortunately for him, the ship encountered the Mallornica, and Gahch met his end at the arrowtip of one of Masae Seorach's crewmen. As booty, it was sold in the markets of Lake Ban's floating city.

The weapon is nominally a normal dagger, but suffers a -4 damage penalty when thrown because the winged crosspiece makes it tumble in the air (unthreaded).

NOTE: The rank 3 and 8 abilities make this a VERY powerful weapon. Be careful adding it to a game. Also, the unfilled ranks 5 and 7 do nothing but increase the thread rank and thus the abilities that rely on that.

Thread Rank One

Key Knowledge:  The wielder must know that the Weaponsmith's name was K'yekkik, that he was a K'stulaami and he made this dagger for the riverboat captain who rescued him.
Effect:  Wielder gains a bonus equal to the thread Rank to the result of any damage tests.

Thread Rank Two

Deed:  Wielder must kill a Kril. If at any time the wielder kills a Krillra, the single karma roll applies to both attack and damage when used (probably a good idea to do this before Rank 8 is reached).
Effect:  Wielder may spend an additional Karma on either the attack or damage test with this weapon.

Thread Rank Three

Key Knowledge:  The wielder must find out how Piercewing became nicknamed Bloodsipper (who Hagslek was and that he killed those 3 horrors bloated with dwarven blood with Piercewing).
Effect:  Wielder armor defeats at one less success level when the dagger is used against things that can bleed.

Thread Rank Four

Deed:  Wielder must climb unassisted to the crow's nest of a ship (or a riverboat lookout) while it on maneuvers, with Piercewing held in his teeth.
Effect:  The wings of the dagger animate when thrown, and it moves through the air as easily as a flight dagger (same range and penalties). If it misses it will swoop around its target attacking each round with the same dice until it does hit (for up to Rank rounds). If something tries to catch it, or knock it down, etc, it will Avoid all attempts with those same attack dice.

Thread Rank Six

Deed:  Wielder must get a Weapon Back ritual done.
Effect:  The link created by the Weapon Back ritual is not connected to the magician who made it, and indeed even if the scar on the wielder becomes distorted or ruined it will magically heal (or even move itself to a better location) with just a Recovery. The spell becomes very easy to cast, the casting difficulty becomes just a 4, and its Effect becomes Willpower + 6 + Rank.

Thread Rank Eight

Deed:  Wielder must throw the dagger straight up and catch it by the blade as it falls. This causes 5 permanent blood damage sealing an oath to never kill a winged creature. This oath must be renewed every year and a day, if not the rank is lost.
Effect:  The wielder's blood drops form replacement rubies for the eyes of the pommel. When thrown at a creature that is already Wounded and bleeding, if Piercewing hits it will automatically strike the wound and thread its magic through the blood vessels of the creature, taking it to its death rating instantly. If Piercewing misses, it will do its normal trick of flying around its target and attacking, but will not do its death effect upon striking.
